Electrical Service Upgrade or Replacement Procedure

  1. Obtain “Work Request Number” from Allegheny Power. Have address and owner’s name ready when calling.

  2. Set up time and date for disconnect and reconnect with Allegheny Power.
  3. Obtain a building permit from this office by filling out an application, having address, owner’s name, contractor and workers’ compensation insurance form. Cost for single-family electrical service change runs about $40.00 and will cover the inspection of the installation. An additional $5.00 may be charged to register for the worker’s compensation insurance.
  4. Schedule inspection with one of the electrical inspectors, a minimum of 24 hours prior to the reconnection with Allegheny Power. Have work request number, permit number and address ready when calling for the inspection.

Note #1: If you have never installed an electrical service in the area we suggest that a site meeting with one of the electrical inspectors at the structure may alleviate any problems that may arise.
