Stair details for all interior and exterior stairways:
Landings (min. 3x3).
Stairway detail: Minimum width = 3; Maximum stair rise = 8-1/4; Minimum tread depth = 9 with Ύ to 1-1/4 nosing; Minimum headroom = 68. Open risers are permitted, provided that the opening between treads doesnt allow the passage of a 4 sphere.
Handrail details: Required at stairs with three or more risers. 34-38 above leading edge of nosing: The handgrip portion of the handrails shall not be more than 2-5/8 inches in cross-sectional dimension, or the shape shall provide an equivalent gripping surface.
Guardrail details: Required for porches, balconies, open sides of stairs, or raised floor surfaces > 30 above floor or grades below; Minimum 36 above finished floor at horizontal locations; Minimum 34 above leading edge of nosing measured vertically at stairs; Opening limitations = < 4 and < 6 at triangle formed by rise and run of stairs and bottom of guardrail.
